Call for 1 Position in the MiMeSys project funded by the Italian Ministry of Research

We invite applications for 1 position to work at the Department of Sociology and Social research of the University of Trento on a project analyzing the relationship between misperceptions, information disorder and polarization in Italy during the 2024 European Elections. The position is part of the MIsperceptions, information disorder and polarisation between MEdia and political SYStems (MiMeSys) project (joint between the University of Trento, Prof. Mario Quaranta – the University of Parma, Prof. Lorenzo Mosca – the University of Pisa, Prof. Roberta Bracciale – and the University of Bologna, Prof. Filippo Tronconi). The project focuses on information disorder and ideological and affective polarisation as crucial sources of misperceptions among citizens and targets the effects of these misperceptions on relevant political attitudes and behaviours in the hybrid media system. To achieve this, the project uses a multi-method design based on a panel survey including experiments, an elite survey, social and traditional media analysis.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will support the University of Trento unit in producing a review of literature on the main points of the project, designing the panel survey, and analyzing the survey data.
She/he will also be involved in the development and publication of research findings in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.
The successful candidate is expected to work closely with the members of the team to ensure the objectives of the MiMeSys project are met timely and effectively.

Qualifications

Minimum requirement: M.A. in Political Science, Sociology, Communication Studies, Information Society or a related field. A higher title (PhD) is an advantage.
Strong quantitative methodological skills are essential as well as use of R/Stata.
Demonstrated interest in the relationship between information, attitudes and political behavior and in the management and organization of a survey.
Knowledge of Italian and excellent command of English, both written and verbal.

Contract Duration:
12 months, from 01.03.2024
Remote work is possible (with an agreement with the PI of the unit, regular meetings will be held).

Salary:
About 1.490 euro (net) per month.
